Is the author familiar with the AEC Industry? Some of the content in this article doesn't follow Design/Construction Industry standards and can be misleading. If you are looking for BIM alternatives, some of these programs won't help you. This article would be better served if it was broken down based on the type of BIM program. For example, Autodesk BIM 360 (by Autodesk not "CAD") is more project management tool rather than BIM creator which is what Revit is and is by the same company Autodesk. (Again, not "CAD"...) How do the various project management tools compare and how do the BIM creation tools compare? Revit has numerous issues but is a general industry standard in the US, while other programs such as Sketchup, is geared more toward graphic rendering. I found this article looking for Revit alternatives, and saw that it's a hodge-podge of various tools used in the span of design and construction. And only one structural engineering program was shown (midas Gen) where there are other 3d structural engineering programs which can help analyze the structural properties and assist with creating optimal engineering solutions.

I can go into a lot of detail on this article, but I won't because in short, it's not helping me look for alternative programs. I do appreciate that it's trying to look at BIM in general but here it really misses the mark.
