The holiday season is rapidly approaching us and many people are already getting anxious about finding the right gifts for their friends and family. Shopping can be difficult, especially if you’re on a budget this year.
On one hand you need to get your friends and family the perfect gifts that will let them know you’re thinking of them. On the other hand, sometimes the perfect gift is out of your budget—or so you might think! Sometimes the key to the perfect holiday present has less to do with your ability to pick it out, and more with your ability to give the person you’re shopping for options to pick out what they want.
Check out these frugal holiday gifts for ideas to help you out with that hard-to-shop for friend or family member!
Museum memberships
Museum memberships are gifts that keep on giving! Whether the person you’re shopping for is interested in art, science, or aerospace, there are sure to be museums in your area that they can keep returning to all year with a pass. Because of rotating exhibits, museum passes never get old or become irrelevant. Plus, one of the best things about them is that museum passes are frequently good at more than one museum in your area, making your options even more open.
Grocery store gift cards
I’ve never understood why more people don’t give each other groceries for holidays! Everyone eats and everyone has to buy food. Most local grocery stores have gift cards that you can buy for friends and family. If you live far away from the person that you’re buying for, look for a chain that’s in your area but also close to them, and watch out because the store might go by a different name.
Grocery store gift cards are especially great for college students and new parents.
Gym memberships
Is your special someone trying to get in shape? A gym membership might be a great gift, if only for a short term trial period. Sometimes all you need to start going to the gym on a regular basis is a little push in the right direction. A free membership might be just what someone needs to get going!
Favor book
My favorite gift to give to friends or family members is a favor-book. Usually, I fill up my favor books with coupons of favors that the person can exchange for favors in the upcoming year. A favor book can be whatever you make it because you fill it with personal favors that you know the person you’re gifting to will find useful. The favors in these special books can range from a coupon for a free babysitting session to a coupon for a free massage. Whatever you think that your giftee will appreciate most is a great idea for the favor book.
Great low-budget gifts take some imagination, but it’s possible to get that special someone just what they want without spending too much money! By just keeping that person and their interests in mind–as well as your budget in mind–you’ll surely be able to pull it off!
