Artificial intelligence (AI) has made inroads into today’s marketing process and has revolutionized many workflows. And so, the value of AI in marketing is poised to climb from $6.94 billion in 2021 to $47.8 billion by 2030 at a staggering annual growth rate of 28.6%.

A large part of this growth can be credited to content marketing as businesses leverage various channels like social media and blogs for promoting their brands and product lines. AI writing software has been making a huge impression in this area, so much so that human creators could feel threatened by their presence.

According to a new study, 82% of marketers believe that content produced by artificial intelligence software is as good as those generated by humans. This underscores the progression of AI and machine learning (ML) in the content marketing sphere, from simply enhancing grammar back then to currently rivaling their human counterparts in content composition and production.

The competencies of AI and ML have raised the demand for AI writing software, whose global value is slated to increase from $359.8 million in 2020 to $1.02 billion by 2028 at an annual growth rate of 14.2%. Now, these systems are typically used by publishers, educational institutions, government offices, and the digital marketing arms of brands and ad agencies, with many finding success in leveraging them. In fact, 72.2% of marketing professionals are already using or planning to leverage AI for content creation this year.

So, just how effective are AI writing platforms? The results are quite surprising.

Enhanced Content Generation

Recent artificial intelligence statistics reveal that 78% of business executives rely on AI to boost content creation. The natural language processing and deep learning capabilities of today’s AI enable marketing platforms to generate content ideas and churn out written content of varying lengths, formats, keywords, and styles. Unlike humans, AI writing software can produce articles in a matter of seconds. This means that such a tool can outperform an entire writing team in the number of write-ups produced at any given time.

As such, 88% of marketers believe that these systems help their companies save time and money. After all, it’s more affordable to use one platform than to manage several teams of writers. In addition, of the professionals who spend 25% less time producing content compared to other marketers, 92% leverage AI tools for advertising content and 65% for short-form email marketing.

Besides quickly producing written outputs, AI writing software solutions are effective in meeting marketing objectives, based on the responses of 77% of marketing professionals. The platforms performed relatively well in terms of meeting the metrics set by marketing teams, thereby influencing the success of marketing campaigns.

Around 49% of marketers think that AI writing tools generate clear and easy-to-read content, 43% can vouch for their efficiency in producing content, 41% feel that the content produced is credible or trustworthy, 40% say that the generated write-ups are original, relevant, and thorough, and 39% believe that the content is engaging. Moreover, Drift’s 2022 State of Sales and Marketing AI Report shows that, on a scale of five, the creation of data-driven content by AI tools scored a decent 3.77.

These figures may be a bit low for some but the technology is still fairly new. AI writing news reports in the near future would likely convey higher scores and percentages as AI and ML technologies for content develop further.

Provides Added Value

Artificial intelligence software for content and AI-powered marketing platforms are not limited to producing marketing write-ups. Some platforms allow users to optimize content to game the algorithms of search engines, predict content performance, and curate content. Furthermore, 74.5% 0f business executives credit AI tools for helping their companies hurdle challenges related to customizing customer experiences, and 50.9% believe these platforms are effective in improving overall customer experience.

Since AI writing systems can generate personalized content, they can effectively appeal to the exact interests of consumers, thus potentially raising sales. A 2021 study found that AI-produced content can collectively generate revenue of around $800 billion and $200 billion for Fortune 500 firms alone. Such lofty numbers contributed to AI becoming one of the foremost content marketing trends of today.

Now, with all the benefits gleaned from leveraging AI writing software, are human writers being replaced by content marketing platforms?

No Threat to Content Writers

Amid all the facts and figures supporting the use of AI writing systems, there is a glaring stat that underscores the need for human content producers. Only around 33% of marketers reported that these platforms generate error-free content. This is an expected result since today’s AI has not evolved to the point of simulating human creativity, understanding the flow and cohesion of complex content structures, discerning the nature of target audiences, conducting original research, injecting personal opinions, producing original data (to some extent), and updating news reports.

These platforms work with information that’s already been published online and within the system in producing new content. Without human intervention, it would likely generate write-ups that ace grammar tests and pass plagiarism tools but are sorely lacking in depth, cohesion, and the establishment of tones that appeal to readers, especially for long-form articles. This is why AI writing tools are typically used for short-form content.

Instead of threatening the jobs of copywriters and marketers, AI writing platforms serve as useful companions that streamline content production and make the process far more painless. By leveraging one, writers can significantly reduce production time, increase production, avoid writer’s block since it can flesh out outlines, and find more angles, given the staggering range of information it can pull.

These tools are bound to improve vastly in the near future, but they are not in a position to replace humans any time soon. After all, modern science has yet to figure out how to fully replicate the complexities of the human brain.
