Microsoft recently released a major Windows 11 update, referred to as the 22H2 update, that delivers new features for today’s hybrid working models. Released in 190 countries, the latest update comes with a set of productivity tools, accessibility features, upgraded security, and content creator functionalities. It also makes some of the operating system’s basic functions more convenient to use. In a nutshell, the new update fosters better collaborations and potentially raises the productivity of business teams.
Besides the aforesaid additions and upgrades, the Windows 11 update has solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of users. It also introduces a controller bar for easier access to games, a Clarity Boost feature for improved graphics, as well as an expanded library of apps and games—numbering some 20,000—thanks to Microsoft’s partnership with Amazon.
Upgraded Productivity Tools
Initially, Windows enabled users to create multiple virtual desktops. This lets business users and freelancers assign a desktop per project and others for personal use. It also introduced Snap Layouts, which consolidated apps and windows in an organized manner. The new update vastly improves the touch navigation of Snap Layouts and its ability to group together Microsoft Edge tabs.
So users can focus on their tasks, Microsoft brings in a new feature called Focus Sessions. When activated, the functionality triggers a Do Not Disturb mode that mutes notifications and switches off app notifications and taskbar badges. What’s more, it adds timers to the Clock App to account for productive hours and work breaks. This enables remote workers to reconcile time data with their employers.
Improved Collaboration Tools
When Windows 11 was launched, it streamlined the communication flows on Microsoft Teams and made the process of adding and syncing contacts much easier. The latest update focuses on video and voice communication. A new feature called Windows Studio Effects offers functionalities for minimizing background noise and stylishly blurring backgrounds.
In addition, Windows Studio has smart features like Automatic Framing, which automatically tracks and frames users as they move, and Eye Contact, which makes it appear that users are perpetually looking at the camera. To allow users to document and splice previous online meetings, the Windows 11 update includes a video-editing application called Clipchamp.
Tighter Security
High-grade security is critical for business and individual users. After all, 921 password attacks take place every second. With this, Windows 11 developed Smart App Control to serve as a roadblock to untrusted apps, macros, and script files. Powered by the same AI used by Windows Defender, the tool can foretell the safety of used applications in real-time.
Moreover, the top-tier work operating system now has Microsoft Defender ScreenSmart, which detects if users are inputting credentials on a phishing site. The update also enhances password management and identity protection to ensure the privacy of users online.
New Documentation and Access Control Features
The new update presents more natural voices and enhanced text-to-speech processing for Narrator, Windows 11’s screen reader. It also provides system-wide live captions to simplify meeting transcriptions and can even capture in-person dialogues. Furthermore, Windows 11 now has voice access features, which improve responses to voice commands. Feedback is provided if the system fails to recognize a word.
Windows 11 users can enjoy the features and upgrades delivered by the new update for free. Microsoft is gearing up to develop more features that best serve hybrid workers in future updates.
