I must admit just a few months ago I hardly knew “project management.” I just knew it’s for someone who manages projects, right? Then I started reading about leadership values, which were either mocked or ignored in the past, and came across a common thread on project management from the works of Dr. Harold Kerzner and Frank Saladis. I also came to know International Institute for Learning, which claims to be a “global leader in training, consulting, coaching and customized course development.” I’d soon find myself immersed in concepts like Grateful Leadership, Positive Leadership and “PM”. Moreover, after hearing about the tenth anniversary of International Project Management Day, I knew I was hooked on project management.
IIL (as people in the know call it) is led by Founder/CEO E. LaVerne Johnson. For over twenty years now it has been strongly advocating for project management in every business field. In fact, inside that period IIL has dedicated ten years promoting International Project Management Day, which celebrates PM as a mature profession and the “lifeblood of an organization,” according to Dr. Kerzner.
All this information and development on project management piqued my interest as a journalist. I did some research and conducted a few interviews about PM. When I learned that the event was FREE and that it was online and I wouldn’t have to leave my seat, I got really excited, jumping and breaking some things in the process.
Likewise, reading through one of Dr. Kerzner’s works, Project Management Best Practices: Achieving Global Excellence, 3rd Edition, made me crave for more information about this field and IPM Day (another cool abbreviation, I know). What was once regarded as a methodology is now proving to be vital in any organization. Thanks to incessant online writings (like this maybe?) lobbying for its importance, organizations today put a premium on project management. “I told you so;” IIL is probably saying now after over two decades of advocating PM and the world wasn’t lending a full ear.
Come November 7, the 10th IPM Day features keynote sessions with PMP experts, live Q&A webcasts, and interactive booths to increase the participants’ awareness on PM and its best practices. Moreover, IIL is holding Power of the Profession for FREE (don’t break anything now) during the event. Over 50,000 viewers from more than 160 countries are expected on IPM Day.
Dubbed by Frank Saladis as “the largest PM event around,” IPM Day leads the way to helping both the international business community and professionals gain a better traction on the discipline with case studies and firsthand experiences from practitioners. Likewise, PMPs will love the event not only as a robust learning platform, but a chance to earn those sought-after Professional Development Units (PDUs).
The IPM Day in November is not only special because of the event’s tenth anniversary, but because IIL is finally getting the world’s attention and collective nod that puts value on project management across industries and sectors. Admittedly, there’s more to learn about project management. And where better to gain more knowledge than in a major event where, I can only imagine, the discussions, ideas, suggestions, comments, etc. will be intense and enduring.
In the words of Dr. Kerzner, “IPM Day is a window into the future, and IIL is at the forefront of leading us.”
There’s such thing as a free lunch, after all. But register now because this lunch is being mobbed by more participants even as I say, “see” you all there!
